chicken dhall

1 cup dhal, washed
1/2 small chicken, cut into small pieces
2 cm crushed ginger
2 green chillies
1 small carrots, sliced
1 potato, cubed
1 large tomato, quartered
2 tbs meat curry powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
3 cloves garlic, sliced
3 shallot, sliced
1 sprigs curry leaf
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
1 asam keping
1 cup thick coconut milk
3 cups water
salt and sugar to taste

1) Boil dhal with chicken and crushed ginger till soft and chicken tender. Add curry powder and turmeric powder mix with 1/2 cup of water (paste). Bring to a boil. Add potato, carrot and cook until potato tender. Add coconut milk, tomato, asam keping, green chillies, salt and sugar to taste.
2) Heat 1/2 cup of cooking oil or ghee and saute curry leaves, shallots, garlic, cinnamon stick and star anise until fragrant and pour over curry. Serve dhal with prata bread or rice.
